This week we launched into the Year of Reading 2026 with an inspiring Picture News assembly all about different ways we can enjoy reading! Our assembly explored how reading isn’t just about books. We talked about how reading happens in so many places and forms:

 stories and novels

 comics and magazines

 poems and songs

 informational texts like menus, instructions and signs

 e-books and audiobooks

The children were brilliant listeners and had some thoughtful ideas of where they find reading in everyday life.

The children were inspired to:

 explore different kinds of texts

 try listening to audiobooks

 talk about their favourite reading moments

 think about how reading helps us learn and grow
