Year 5 have had an egg-cellent couple of weeks in school as they welcomed some very special chicks into the classroom! The children had the incredible opportunity to watch the eggs safely hatch inside a carefully warmed incubator before observing the chicks grow stronger and fluffier each day.
The project gave children a real-life insight into life cycles, animal care and responsibility. They learned about the importance of temperature, humidity and gentle handling, while developing patience and curiosity as they waited for the chicks to emerge. Educational hatching projects are a fantastic hands-on way for children to explore science and understand how living things grow and develop.
The chicks were extremely well looked after by both staff and pupils. They even enjoyed a weekend “holiday” at Mrs Knowles’ house, where they continued to receive lots of care and attention! This memorable experience created great excitement across Year 5 and provided many learning opportunities. The children absolutely loved watching the chicks hatch and grow before their eyes.
Children are pictured here on a non-uniform day.
