We are very grateful to our local Coastguard for visiting our school yesterday and delivering such an important assembly on water safety. Living so close to the coast is a privilege, but with that comes the responsibility to respect the sea and enjoy it safely.
Our children already knew the vital message of ‘Float to Live‘, and it was brilliant to have this life-saving advice reinforced through powerful real-life stories like Ravi’s and Aggie’s. The Coastguard helped our pupils understand how to stay calm in an emergency, avoid cold water shock, and make smart choices when out near open water. We talked about:
- The importance of wearing life jackets on the water
- Checking tide and wind conditions
- The meaning of beach safety flags
- How to respond if you see someone in trouble in the water (remember: Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard)
This summer, we hope all our families will enjoy our beautiful beaches and creeks—but let’s do so safely. Thank you again to the Coastguard for their time, expertise and dedication to keeping our community safe.
