This week, Year 4 started their new Design and Technology unit, focusing on Roman Pavilions. Working collaboratively in small groups, pupils were challenged to design and construct their own pavilion structures using only marshmallows and cocktail sticks.
The activity encouraged the children to consider key design principles, such as strength, stability, and suitability for use as a shelter. Once completed, the class evaluated each structure, reflecting thoughtfully on the effectiveness of their designs and identifying areas for improvement.
This engaging introduction to the topic successfully combined creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork which set a strong foundation for the remainder of the unit.
