Year 5 have made an excellent start to their hockey lessons this term. The children have shown great enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination as they have learned how to dribble, pass, and defend. Already, they are developing strong skills and working together brilliantly.
Hockey is a fast-paced and exciting sport that is enjoyed by millions of people around the world. Did you know…
- The modern game of hockey was first played in England in the 19th century
- A hockey pitch is the same length as a football pitch but a little narrower
- Players use the flat side of the stick only and it takes great control and coordination
- Hockey is played at the Olympic Games and is one of the most popular team sports globally
Learning hockey in PE is not just about mastering a new game. It helps children to:
- Improve their fitness, speed, and agility.
- Develop coordination and fine motor skills.
- Practise teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking.
- Build confidence as they try new skills and challenge themselves.
We are really proud of the way Year 5 have started their hockey journey and look forward to seeing their progress as the term continues.
