Year 5 pupils have been captivated by the magical process of metamorphosis unfolding right in their classrooms! As part of their current science unit on animal life cycles, Hazel and Maple classes welcomed a special delivery a few weeks ago. It was a cup filled with tiny caterpillars.

The children eagerly observed as the caterpillars grew at an astonishing rate, eventually crawling to the top of the cup where they transformed into chrysalides. After patiently waiting for them to harden, the chrysalides were carefully transferred into a butterfly habitat.

Over the following days, the children were thrilled to witness painted lady butterflies emerge in all their colourful beauty. They enjoyed observing and caring for their new classroom guests, feeding them a delicious diet of banana, pineapple, and sugar water.

Finally, in a lovely conclusion to the experience, the butterflies were released into the wild near our beautiful bee garden as the children waved them off. This was a perfect farewell to a memorable learning journey.
