Yesterday, Year 6 were incredibly lucky to work with the Royal Navy on a selection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. There were a carousel of three exciting activities. Firstly, the children worked with a gyrosphere robot that they programmed, using a code like in Scratch, to move forwards and backwards before turning it into an ambulance where it had blue and red flashing lights as well as a siren. One of the other activities was based on electricity where we saw how water was a conductor as well as ourselves because we are mostly made of water. We then made our own circuits with a motor and fan that created a flying saucer where they flew right up to the ceiling! Lastly, we looked at pneumatics and building a system with components before looking at a submarine simulator to see what it looked like on the inside as well as at a jetty. Year 6 had an amazing time where they got to experience new concepts and ask questions about the Navy itself.
