Year 6 were delighted to welcome Corryne from Hampshire Fire and Rescue, who led an engaging fire safety workshop. The children discovered important safety tips, including how often to check fire alarms and when to replace batteries—facts that surprised many of us! Did you know you should:
- Test your smoke alarms once a week
- Change the battery once a year, and
- Clean it out twice a year?
The session covered how quickly fires can spread and the leading causes of household fires, such as cooking, electrical faults, smoking, and candles. We also learned the risks of charging electrical devices on beds (due to overheating) and the importance of never leaving cooking unattended. This was an invaluable session, packed with essential fire safety information to keep our students and their families safe.
