Year 5 recently enjoyed a day of history, discovery and adventure during their visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The day began with a Mary Rose workshop, led by a specialist, where the children explored fascinating artefacts recovered from the ship. They learned about life on board and had great fun dressing up as different workers from the Mary Rose, bringing Tudor history vividly to life.

Pupils were then immersed in the story of the ship’s recovery through the 4D cinema experience, which showed the dramatic excavation of the Mary Rose from the seabed. This was a real highlight and helped deepen the children’s understanding of why the ship is so important to our national heritage.

The visit continued with time in the Mary Rose Museum, where pupils saw real artefacts and gained a powerful insight into life at sea over 500 years ago. Year 5 also explored HMS Warrior, comparing ships across different periods of history and asking thoughtful, curious questions throughout.

To round off the day, the children even travelled by ferry, adding an extra sense of excitement and giving them a chance to see the dockyard and harbour from the water.

It was a fantastic trip that enriched our history learning, sparked curiosity and created lasting memories. Well done to Year 5 for representing the school so brilliantly and thank you to all staff and helpers who made the visit possible.
