Yesterday, our Year 4 children took part in a special Christingle service, warmly attended by 62 adults, far more than we expected, and a wonderful reflection of our supportive school community.
Christingle is a tradition often celebrated during Advent, symbolising hope, light and the love of Christ. The orange represents the world, the candle reminds us of Jesus as the light in the darkness, and the ribbon and sweets help us reflect on God’s love and the gifts of creation. The children have been learning about this in RE with the concept of ‘anticipation’.
We extend our thanks to the Rev. Will from St Mary’s, Rowner, for leading the service so beautifully. His calm, engaging presence helped make the occasion memorable for children and families alike.
Our thanks also go to our families for joining us and for being so flexible and understanding about the last-minute change of venue due to the weather. Your support helped ensure the event remained the uplifting gathering we hoped for.
Finally, we are very grateful to Rowner Spar for kindly providing our oranges. This was such a thoughtful gesture that contributed to a lovely community celebration. It was a delightful event.
