In their current Geography unit, Year 6 have been looking at ‘Extreme Weather’ as well as biomes and climate zones. This week, the Year 6 children took their geography learning to a whole new level by creating and building miniature ecosystems in a jar. After exploring how living things depend on one another and the importance of balanced environments, the children carefully selected soil, plants, stones, and natural materials to construct their own self-contained habitats.
The children loved seeing how each element plays a vital role in keeping an ecosystem healthy. Over the next week, they’ll be observing changes, discussing discoveries, and reflecting on how real-world environments function.
