Our Year 4 pupils had a fantastic day exploring history firsthand at Fishbourne Roman Palace. The trip brought our Roman learning to life as the children discovered what life was really like nearly 2,000 years ago.

During the day, the children took part in a Roman workshop, where they had the chance to handle replica artefacts, role play in a Roman kitchen, use ink to write in latin on papyrus or write on a wax tablet with a stylus and learn about daily life in Roman Britain. A few children were chosen to dress up as a Roman Prince, Princess and servant!

After the workshop, everyone enjoyed exploring the palace grounds. The children were amazed by the size of the site and the beauty of the ancient mosaics still visible today. One of the highlights was Mosaic Bingo, a fun and educational game that encouraged pupils to spot different patterns and designs hidden around the area.

In the museum, the children were able to see genuine Roman artefacts discovered at Fishbourne. From pottery and jewellery to tools and coins, every object helped them imagine what it might have been like to live there all those centuries ago.

It was a brilliant day full of discovery, curiosity, and enthusiasm. The children represented the school beautifully and came away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Roman history.
