As part of our Personal Development curriculum, Year 3 enjoyed a special visit from the Hampshire Mental Health Team, which linked to World Mental Health Day. The session helped our children understand how their brains work, introducing the idea of the ‘upstairs and downstairs brain’ to explain how we process thoughts and feelings. Together, they explored how different emotions can affect our bodies and what happens when we feel calm, worried, or cross. The children then created their own emotional toolkits, filled with practical strategies they can use to regulate their feelings and look after their well-being. It was a thoughtful session that supported our ongoing commitment to helping every child understand themselves better and develop healthy ways to manage emotions.
