In Year 4’s current RE unit, the children are exploring the concept of persuasion. Last week, they began by revisiting what it really means to persuade someone. Together, they reflected on situations where persuasion can be a positive influence, as well as times when it may not be so helpful. Through different scenarios, the class discovered that some situations could be resolved through compromise, allowing everyone to get a little of what they wanted. At the same time, they recognised the importance of free choice, understanding that we don’t always need to compromise. Sometimes it is okay to try and persuade others, or even to be persuaded ourselves, as long as it is fair and balanced, and not always the same person being persuaded.
