Our football team were invited to take part in the Gosport and Fareham Football Finals after securing second place in their winter league group (North). In the play-off for third place, they faced St Mary’s, who had also finished second in the South league. Despite a strong start, we found ourselves 2–0 down within the first five minutes. However, the boys quickly found their rhythm; passing confidently, keeping possession, and creating several goal-scoring chances. Their efforts paid off when Joe-Louie, after a well-worked team move, scored with his weaker left foot into the bottom corner.
Half-time: KA Rowner 1–2 St Mary’s
Early in the second half, St Mary’s extended their lead, presenting a tough challenge. But our team didn’t give up. They stuck to their game plan: passing, communicating and taking shots whenever the opportunity arose. Unfortunately, the goals didn’t come, despite our dominance in possession, shots, and passing. The final scoreline of 5–1 did not reflect the quality and effort shown on the pitch.
Man of the Match was shared between Joe-Louie and Kayden, who both played with passion and skill as shown through taking players on, passing intelligently, defending when needed, and attacking with purpose. A special mention also goes to Ben, who made a fantastic impact in defence, showing great determination with blocks, tackles, and clearances. All three players demonstrated excellent listening skills and gave their very best in what was their finest performance for KA Rowner this season.
Although the result did not go our way, the team should be incredibly proud. This is the first time, to our knowledge, that KA Rowner has reached the Gosport football finals. This was a brilliant achievement and a testament to the team’s hard work and progress.
