As part of our topic learning, we began by exploring what the Olympic Games looked like in ancient times. The children had great fun creating and taking part in our very own mini Olympics, inspired by traditional events such as shot put, javelin and sprinting.
Later, the excitement continued as we turned detectives to solve a murder mystery involving a Greek Olympian! Using evidence and clues, we pieced together what might have happened—an engaging way to bring history to life.
Linking to our Design and Technology learning, we explored coprolite (fossilised poo!) to discover what it can tell us about people in the past. We learned that Ancient Greeks enjoyed foods like olives, tomatoes and cheese.
We then became food critics and tasted a range of Greek delicacies. Tzatziki was a surprising favourite among many, while olives… well, let’s just say they were an acquired taste!
To round off our brilliant day, we used our knowledge of ingredients to prepare our own delicious Greek salads. A perfect end to a fantastic, cross-curricular learning experience.
