This afternoon, Year 6 took part in an exciting STEM activity to celebrate Science Week. Our focus was on the Engineering Habit of Mind: ‘Adapting’—thinking creatively about how something can be used in a different way.

We explored the fascinating history of scissors—did you know they date back 3,000 to 4,000 years? After learning how this simple yet effective mechanism works, we put our knowledge to the test by designing our own creations using paper and split pins.

With plenty of imagination and teamwork, Year 6 engineered a mini table lift, giant scissors, a retractable mirror, and even moving paper animals! The session was a fantastic opportunity for problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on learning.

Well done to our young engineers for their brilliant designs and innovative thinking!
