This afternoon, Year 4 took part in a STEM challenge to celebrate British Science Week. This year’s theme is ‘adapt and change’, so the children were provided with limited resources (scrap paper and one medium sized piece of cellotape) and tasked to create a freestanding structure that would be able to hold a weight for ten seconds. The children were required to create a design and then adapt it to ensure the structure would be strong, sturdy and fit for purpose. For some of them, this meant a complete change in their design as they realised it would not be successful when testing it early on. For the weight, we used one of our Greek inspired pottery from our art lesson, showing just how strong our structures were!
We had lots of successful groups who managed to achieve this challenge. When reflecting, we considered what was challenging and how we overcame this, the skills we used throughout the task and what made us feel proud.
