Today, we pay tribute to the thousands of people who participated in and lost their lives on D – Day. D-Day is the name given to the day when the Normandy Landings took place during World War II. Taking place on Tuesday 6th June 1944, Operation Overlord was the official name given to this large military assault that liberated north-west Europe from German control, and secure Allied success in the war. We reflect as a community by wearing red, white and blue, learning about the role of Stokes Bay in D-Day and how the Allies enabled their invasion of Normandy.
