On Monday afternoon, Year 3 and Year 4 enjoyed getting together as a phase to launch the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Week. They focussed on a book called ‘Happiness is a watermelon on your head’ which told the story of a group of characters who were all feeling negative emotions and desperate to find out how they could feel happier.
When they finished the story, they took part in some class discussions about what the moral of the story was before joining together online to share their thoughts and feelings as a lower school phase. The children came up with some amazing suggestions about the message of the book. They talked about how emotions can change throughout our day and how that is completely normal. The children also discussed the importance of making time for laughter and fun to help boost your mood. All of the children showed super listening and speaking skills and contributed to a very thoughtful, reflective discussion!
