We are so, so proud of Mr Stubbings who completed the London Marathon on Sunday. The children have been inspired hearing all about it. Despite running the 26.2 miles he happily walked into work on Monday. Mr Stubbings was put into the Marathon ballot in April 2019 along with about 500,000 other runners. Sat in the staff room in October 2019 he received a congratulations email welcoming him to the race. Serious training ensued until Feb/Mar 2020 when he developed a knee injury. And then Covid struck seeing the 2020 London Marathon postponed. Fortunately, his place was deferred until this year so with treatment, training, grit and determination, Mr Stubbings achieved a decent result. He was really satisfied with his run, and couldn’t have asked for more. Mr Stubings has received some great mentoring by Gosport Road Runners and some veterans (in age and Marathon experience) who were able to guide him through with managing his expectations and what to expect on the day. Mr Stubbings thought the course was a bit like Notting Hill Carnival with a cast of thousands trying to get to the bit when you get a medal and food! The weather was perfect; crisp dry running until mile 24 when the sky opened for 5-6 minutes before the bright sunshine and dazzling sun greeted him at the finish along the Mall up to Buckingham Palace. Perfect. And yes, he would do it all again…
